When learning is conduct in a classroom, students will adjust their learning methods according to their learning style. There are three types of student learning style, (1) Visual learners; learning from their sense of sight. They quickly show an affinity for reading, it can start with comics and move on to books. (2) Kinesthetic learners; gained information through touch, movement, and motion. (3) Auditory learners; learning through a sense of hearing. This means students who are remembering the material from listening.
With the development of technology, auditory learners not only get material from teachers or people involved, but also can listen to material from a tape recorder, music, or podcast. In this article, I will discuss a platform that can be used by teachers to teach listening skills.
One of a platform that provides a variety of music genres and podcasts are SoundCloud, Spotify, and Joox. The application can help teachers hone students' listening skills, because live listening in the classroom is already to be an old method that is too bored. The examples of activities that can be done using those applications are playing the song to the students in a class. Then students are expected to filling the song lyrics following what they already listen to. For podcasts, the students will listen to one podcast and students will be asked the 5W + 1H questions of what, when, who, where, why, how related to the podcast. This activity using podcasts and music can invite students to find out new vocabulary, they can indirectly improve listening skills, and find out with the up to date application.
